cinta.ramadan

Danny, a charming enterprising marketing executive instills practicality and materialistic principles and mindsets towards his way of life that repels the ideology his out-of-time pious father, Ismail strongly believes in. A clashing of principles give way to a dreadful argument between them which only serves as a catalyst to provoke Danny’s prolonged intention to leave home, a decision that will overthrow his passive mother, Kamariah into a solitary realm of life condition at home and questions the indulgence of his father’s eccentric undertakings of being holier-than-thou. Moving out of his house, Danny starts his own project and meets Natrah, a modest yet brightly menacing newcomer to the company.

This scene between Danny and his father really blew my mind. It was honest, it was brutal, it was one take.

It was quite difficult at that time to showcase a solat scene. But when we got the ‘approval’, I really wanted to make the best of it. Danny was just in a bar in the scene before and to go from there to the mosque, is to signify a great deal of repentance. It needed to be him, just him with God. Amazing lighting from my team and of course, awesome delivery by Sharnaaz.

I wanted to show our cemetery in a new perspective. At that time, drones and drone operators were rare. These drones have no stabilizer and literally home-made. But I wanted that shot, the shot from exactly above the grave. And it was amazing. I believe we were the first to show that on the channel. Mad proud of the team.

‘Cinta Ramadan’ was in 2013. It was my first attempt at writing and directing. And to be working with an amazing cast of Sharnaaz Ahmad, Fir Rahman, Nurul Nabila, Adlina Adil, Sivakumar Palakrishnan, and the awesome couple of Nurijah Sahat and Ahmad Yusof was simply unbelievable. They say you’ll never forget your first. And yes, I still have goosebumps when I listen to the OST.

Cinta Ramadan holds a special place in my heart, not only because it was my first Suria project, but how the story is personal to me. And it is the beginning of an amazing journey.

Alhamdulillah.
