raya.sempurna

An ensemble of 3 love stories that revolve around Ramadan and Hari Raya. Hasnah has Alzheimer and is staying at an old folk’s home. Every day, Rahim visits her to entertain and read to her. Hasnah has lost most of her memories but Rahim is determined to make her remember at least the fact that they are husband and wife, especially for Hari Raya since it is the day he actually proposed to her, 40 years ago. Harun is married to Syafiqa for 10 years, with no kid. They are successful in their career and have put off having a child in order to climb the corporate ladder. Now, they are craving to have their own bundle of joy and after trying for the past 6 months, Syafiqa is finally pregnant. Tension grew when Syafiqa has a miscarriage and could no longer get pregnant. Irfan has a huge crush on his neighbour, Aisyah. Every morning, he will wait for Aisyah, who lives 2 floors above his flat, before going to school. Irfan will orchestrate his mornings to take the same lift down with Aisyah. But he has not gathered enough courage to speak to Aisyah even when they are alone in the same lift. Irfan finally becomes brave enough to speak to Aisyah but his perception of the perfect girl changed when he finds out that Aisyah is a mute. Every day after work, Aisyah will visit her grandfather, Salim at the old folk’s home. Salim needs full medical attention and he chooses to live at the old folk’s home in order not to burden Aisyah, an orphan. Aisyah, Salim’s only grandchild and a chef, loves him very much and will make sure she brings Salim’s favourite dishes every time she visits. 3 different lives that revolve around each other without them realizing that they have the same dream: To have a perfect Hari Raya.

I was skeptical at first if this scene would pass the channel’s ratings, but glad that it did. It never was intended to be crude, I wanted to deliver the scene without any dialogue.

This scene was just to strike off one from my bucket list, to shoot in the middle of one of the iconic places in Singapore film: The Cathay.

vertical.love.story

If you followed my work since my involvement in the wedding industry, you might have seen my first Love Shorts titled ‘A Vertical Love Story’. This particular story in Raya Sempurna was based on that short film and this scene was filmed at that very same location.

There were some feedback from people in the industry that the shots in Raya Sempurna were very ‘wedding-video-like’. But I never felt that was a bad thing. I am proud (still am) to come from the wedding video industry background. And when we won ‘Best Videography’ for Raya Sempurna at the Pesta Perdana, I was mad proud of the team. A big Thank You to the beautiful talents of Keith Foo, Marina Yusoff, Norman Ishak, Nadiah M Din, S Sahlan, Hamidah Salim, Ateeqah Mazlan and many more...
